better than gas

Just got this electric after gas mower won't start....it is very quiet and cut a 3 week growth with no problem and no lawn turds which the gas would have given me. Since the mower is relatively light weight there is no need for self propulsion I have about 1/6 of an acre and it took less time to mow with this than with gas mower. It's great to stop and start whenever you need to without hassle of pulling the cord etc. Does what it is supposed to do. Buy one if you have a small lawn

missing waranty/instruction booklets

I like the lawn mawer very much. However, the warranty/instruction booklets were not included in the original package, which I reported the missing items to amazon immediately; they advised me to contact directly to Black&Dekker, I gave it up after a few frustrating attempts. This is the only blemish with my amazon e-commerce experince. Still, I want them if possible. Sincerely, JSK.

Good for the price?

Hand mower fan, but needed more power for missed clippings. No gas fan; had to be electric. I researched and I chose the MM875 for price and abilities. No booklet included. There was some writing on the box, but no clear directions on how to operate it. We figured it out ourselves. It started right away and has been working very nicely after 3 sessions. The foam-like tube cushioning the handle has already torn some. So far, so good.

It gets the work done, but i should have bought the battery one. The long cord is very annoying not to mention that you might mistakenly run it over. If your lawn has lots of trees in the middle, I dont suggest you buying this mower. It works great for straight back and forth movement.

This one does come fully charged and mows like a dream right out of the box.
I am glad they went back to the bar design for keeping the mower running, it is more comfortable and durable. The increased voltage allows me to mow my front and back yard and keeps moving even on the thicker grass in my back yard. My previous model required me to do each yard area on a different day.

After my Black & Decker corded mower just stopped in my yard this summer, I needed a new mower and knew I didn't want to go back to gas. I got this mower and was able to set up and use it in one day. The set up was easy and the mower works much better (cuts more evenly) than the other one. This lower would be great for flat lawns. I have a fairly steep hill and count on getting a bit of a workout when I mow, because this mower weighs 72 pounds. The weight comes from the battery which is one easy to remove. But, you don't need to remove it because you can charge it while it is still in place. Also one lever allow you to change the height level of the mower.

Cons: As far as I can tell you can't tell what charge level is on the mower and you need to use a key to start the mower. It is heavy if you have a hill.

Pros: You don't need to remove the battery to charge and can leave the mower on the charger all of the time. Easy set-up. One lever to change the height.

I have used it just three times, and am extremely please so far

B&D 19 inch Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

This mower works well. It is fairly quiet, yet powerful. The battery's charge will last for about an hour. It does not mulch very well. It is very sensitive to any objects on your lawn, which do not cause problems for a gas mower.

Overall, I really like the mower, considering its electric and considering the good price. I am happy with how the mower mulches.. I put some chemicals down to kill weeds/crabgrass and have had to mulch for the past couple mowings, and I can't even see the clippings it does such a good job. I'm wondering if whoever was having a problem with this didn't put in the mulching insert that easily slips into place once the bag is removed. Anyway, I actually found this to be a nice little bonus for this mower. As per the instructions I just leave it plugged in in the garage and it's always ready to use, and it always starts the first time every time with just the push of a button. It does a nice job providing a nice, even cut, but I haven't used it to cut really long or wet grass yet so don't know how it'll do in those circumstances yet. It takes me about 60 minutes to mow my mother's lawn and I don't sense any loss of performance due to a drained battery, so it seems like it'll go for quite a bit longer. Some nice touches are the one-touch height adjustment, the bag is very easy to take on/off and empty, the safety key to prevent kids from starting it, and the handle is nicely shaped and padded so it's very comfortable to use. The mower is a little on the heavy side, but I don't think it's all that much heavier than a traditional gas mower and overall it's pretty maneuverable. Overall this mower seems pretty solid and well put together.

I bought this mower from Amazon, and I'm satisfied with it. I've been using it about 6 weeks. I have a small front lawn and a relatively small back lawn, probably not more than 2000 square feet in all, and so this mower is overkill. But the little Bully Lawnpup I'd been using before I moved took nearly an hour to cut; that wasn't any good at all. My goal was that I wanted to be done with both lawns, start to finish, in 10 minutes - no fooling around with gasoline cans, extension cords, difficult height adjustments, or anything else. And the B+D delivered. Here's what I learned:

LIKES:

I love that the B+D sits at an outlet, handle folded over, and is ready to go when it's time. The battery can be charged in place or out of the mower, which is handy if you're planning to swap batteries for big jobs, but I found it easiest just to leave it there.

I like the safety features. The start button, power key, and grab bar make it nearly impossible to start the mower if you are not intending to, or if you are a small child. That's excellent. Yet it's easy to just start and go. The rubber back-flap reduces rock throws and

I love the height adjustment. There is a small meter and a little squeeze handle; squeeze the handle, pull up or down until the meter reads what you want, let go the handle, and all four wheels 'click' into place.

I like the wide track and the ease of handling. It's fairly easy, given the mower's weight, to navigate it how you want it to go.

I like the results. The lawn is cut, not shredded or torn, and most of the clippings go in the bag. Because they really want you to mulch, it's designed as a mulching mower; I find that an inch-wide stripe of clippings miss the bag and get laid down under the right wheels. They blow away in the wind after an hour or so.

I like that it arrived so quickly, undamaged. Yay for Amazon prime shipping.

I guess I like how environmentally friendly it is. My area's served by a nuke plant, so my mowing's carbon-neutral. It's also relatively quiet compared to gas mowers, though I do use earplugs (and eye and foot protection, always, just like you should too).

DISLIKES:

The mower is extremely heavy. 72 pounds; 46 lbs of that is battery. Ugh.

The wheels could have benefited from a bit of suspension or at least springiness; and better bearings. The ride is a little rough and if the ground is even a little uneven, it shows in a sort of unevenly cut lawn. Bearing down on the front wheels sort of fixes that, but who wants to do that kind of work?

The plastic part that holds the battery - battery console, for lack of a better word - cracked within a week. I don't think it's designed to cope with the weight of this battery. The problem appears cosmetic only.

It's hard to take off the bag. I got used to reaching down through the handle and lifting the catch bag up between the bars. No dice here - you have to bend down and move it sideways, out from the mower. If you empty the mower in a narrow side path, like where most people keep their greenwaste can, it's annoying and you will spill dust off the top of the bag.

Clippings, leaves and dust get on the top of the mower and top of the bag under even light use. They appear to shoot up between the right rear wheel and the plastic blade housing. I understand that if I were mulching, as they clearly seem to think I am supposed to be, that stuff would get everywhere. I don't *want* to mulch, because that stuff is nasty and I don't want it everywhere. I want to catch it and discard it. Why doesn't it all go in the bag? It's easily brushed off and swept up, but sometimes this makes me miss my 10 minute window.

It's an expensive product. For the price Amazon is charging, the device ought to be perfect, not just great. Despite that, if you took mine away I'd buy another one, and I guess that's good enough for government work.

Scotts Lawn Mover

Upon receiving had to immediately make a height adjustment other than the adjustments on the rear wheels and was not all that difficult. Removing the large wheels was straight forward. It performs wonderfully, and I like the extra width of the 20" cut. So far (after a month of use) I am satisfied with this mower.

Works well but....

I bought this lawnmower because I have a small yard and didn't want to store a gas lawnmower or deal with a corded electric type. The lawnmower works great but it doesn't do good with tall weeds / grass or gets close to edges of planting beds. Not a big deal because I knew that going in but be advised you will be doing more weed wacking for sure.

On March 11, 2009, I purchased the Scotts 2000-20 10-Inch Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower based on the reviews on Amazon at the time. Previously I bought and returned a Brill Razorcut because of its limited cutting height. This review is based on my experience of having used both the Brill and the Scotts push reel mower.

Although the Brill was constructed mainly from plastic materials it seemed to hold together fine and maneuvering was quite stable and light. On the other hand, the Scotts reel mower is constructed with a metal (steel?) material. One could probably conclude that the Scotts to be more sturdy but I find it isn't the case. The way the handle is designed and assembled makes it harder to push to move the mower forward. It seems like a lot of my energy is directed in a downward motion unless I extend my arms out and give more space between me and the mower. Doing so would put my body in a position where my upper back would be facing up to the sky and my chest facing the ground. At some point I had to push at the handle's mid-point to move it forward. I'm about 5'6" tall. About a a couple of months into the mower the foam cushion starts to peel and break off. The joints on the handle started to loosen and the handle became more unstable as I constantly tried to tighten the screws where the parts of the handle join together. This is due to the way the upper and lower handle is assembled together.

If you have even ground and grass that isn't too thick this the Scotts mower would be inexpensive and great. Depending on how fast your grass grows, it best to cut frequently before the grass gets too tall. If it does the reel mower will go right over the grass without cutting it. If it the grass gets too tall, it's best to cut first with a regular gas mower and then maintain your lawn with the push reel mower.

As of writing this review over almost 16 months later, my Scotts reel mower is partially rusted in the storage. I need to sharpen and realign the blades. It probably got rusted because of the washings. I also need to put a new foam covering on the handle.

I wish Brill would make a reel mower that has a higher height and a wider cut. To me the Scotts mower gives you the same workout as a gas push (non self-propelled) mower. Cutting with a push reel mower is great because you don't have to deal with dust and grass flying all over your body and breathing the gas fumes as with the gas push mowers. It's also quiet enough to cut anytime of the day or night.

I was sceptical at first about purchasing a cordless mower but really had grown tired of messing with a gas mower that was too large for the yard, awkward to maneuver and loud. I'm still not too awfully excited about mowing but the Black & Decker CM1836-18 Inch mower makes it a brease. Quiet, cuts great and handles with ease.

Purchased this mower for use at a townhouse. It could not be better. Easy to assemble and works perfectly. Lightweight - no gas, no oil and no cords. Very easy to push and great price. Excellent!

for the money it's ok it does cut well except for dandelions just rolls over them the only real problem is the handle is to short and the handle grips wore through to metel the second time i used it. I will get new grips for it. but all in all it is ok for what i use it for.

Great mower

Although small, this is a great mower. I got the mower for several reasons, the exercise, the environment, and the way a reel mower makes bermuda grass look. Over the last several years, I have changed my lawncare practices to be more environmentally friendly. I am using organic fertilizer this year and in combination with this mower, my yard looks great. It is easy to push, it goes around corners easily and overall does an excellent job. As I said, my yard is bermuda. Bermuda grass is tough and grows fast. This little mower has no trouble cutting the grass. Add Amazon's super fast shipping and it's a great deal.

steady little workhorse

I was warned by several friends about buying a hand mower - mainly that it would be too hard to push - but that's not the case. More expensive than I would have thought, but definitely worth it - a good, steady little machine that will probably last forever. You have to put the handle together when it comes out of the box, but this was relatively easy even for me. The blades are sharp, the mower is easy to push, and I'm actually enjoying mowing the lawn. The only down side was a tiny metal thing that's supposed to fit into the slots to keep the handle on. One did, the other was too loose, had to adjust with a hammer and ended up using duct tape. On the whole though, am delighted.

The minor assembly is easy. It cuts the grass well but wouldn't work as well on bermuda or crab grass. Provides good light exercise and a nice looking lawn.
