Very handy to have the sharpener around. A few trips can get your knife back to be sharp.

Best Knife Sharpener on the Market!!!!

I bought the Accusharp Knife Sharpener to sharpen my tactical and kitchen knives and I couldn't be happier with the quality and ease of use. All my knives are razor sharp now and I love this tool!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Rating :

Great purchase

For under 10 dollars I was easily able to sharpen my very nice knives. It normally costs me about 75 dollars to get a good edge back on my 11 knives. This handy little sharpener is well worth the money. I bought 2 so I could give one to my daughter.

Not as good as its reputation, won't give you a razor's edge

I've hand-sharpened knives for 25 or so years now, and have tried nearly every sharpening system and sharpening materials out there. In all of my considerable experience (sorry if that sounds a bit cocky), nothing beats hand-sharpening on flat whetstones that have a high grit, or using a leather strop with jeweler's rouge to polish up an edge to a glass smooth, super razor sharp edge.

I kept hearing such wonderful things from people about how good of a sharpener this AccuSharp 001 knife sharpener is, so I decided, since I really like to have very sharp knives, to give it a try. I own several other sharpeners like this, both in design and in material (tungsten carbide), and have never been satisfied with the edge they produce. Before purchasing this product, probably the best I had tried before were sharpeners like the Smith Abrasives, Inc. PP1 Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener, which has both a tungsten carbide sharpener to quickly get a semi-sharp edge, and also a ceramic bladed sharpener to finish, or "polish" the edge into sharpness.

This AccuSharp 001 sharpener is actually the best product of this kind I have tried. Despite only having the tungsten carbide blades, it actually gives a good knife a decent edge. I tried this product on cheap 440A stainless steel (no name Wally World type knives), 440HC stainless steel (typical Buck knife blade material, which is pretty decent steel), to high quality blade materials like high carbon 1095 steel (Ontario, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, and a few others) and VG-1 and VG-10 stainless steels (again, SOG, some Cold Steel, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc).

Even on high quality steel blades, this sharpener only delivers a decent edge. Not a razor edge, but a decent edge. No offense to the previous reviewer, I like to use a knife for its intended purpose...to cut through something with MINIMAL effort...which cannot be done without at LEAST a razor edge. Whether I'm preparing dinner, to woodworking, etc etc, I simply must have a razor's edge at the least to work with, to make my work go easier.

I have still found no better method that using high grit flat stones, followed by polishing with a leather strop and jeweler's rouge, to give me that super razor edge on good quality steel that I prefer to use.

SO, if you only want a pretty decent edge to work with, then this product is, hands down, the best one to use to give you that decent edge. Just make sure you follow the instructions and only use very, very slight pressure, or you'll never get that decent edge.

If what you want or need is a razor edge, or super razor edge, then this product will disappoint you. It all depends on what you want/need.

But, again, as far as this type of sharpener goes, this is by far the best one I've used.

Can Get it Like a Razor

If used properly this item can get your knives, axes, and other blades just as sharp as a razor. The product seems quite durable for it being made of plastic. The price was unbeatable. Great little sharpener for fine tuning your blades.

Tapered round diamond coated rod for sharpening serrated and standard edges. Pre-set carbide blades quickly set your edge. Specially shaped ceramic stones give you a razor sharp edge. Reversible and replaceable carbide and ceramic stones for extended sharpening. Lanyard hole for carrying.

Customer Review :

Very Useful

This is perfect for people who don't have the time to sit down and work with a stone to sharpen knives.

I use this on my Leathermans, Swiss Army Knives, and CRKT folders, and it makes them razor sharp in around 5 mins. For the really dull blades, a few swipes with the carbides gets them back into shape, then a few swipes with the ceramics gets the blade razor sharp.

For the price, this is unbeatable. It is also really small, so it is very convenient to bring everywhere

JUST WORKS!

I'm no expert, but this little gadget just plain works! I can't testify to durability as I have had it only a week, but I sharpened 7 straight edges and 6 serrated steak knives and I'm pleased with the simplicity and speed of use! I also attached a little key chain to it.

Rating :

Alright in a pinch, but not great.

I purchased this bundled with the larger Smith's sharpening system (which works fantastically). I thought that it would be good to have on the key chain or in an emergency kit. Looks like it may fill that roll alright, but I wouldn't trust it to give an edge to my more expensive knives unless the situation has really gone downhill.

All in all, it will fill the role, but not something to use when performing exacting maintenance on your collection.

Rating :

Pretty slick sharpening tool!

I bought this to get me over the Free Shipping amount, and figured if it was a Smith's product, it must be okay.

I'm very happy with the tool! It rapidly dresses blades from my 'fingernail cleaner' up to the 8" kitchen knife. It is not the tool you use to salvage a round-edged blade, but that is what stones are for.

The other feature, the 'spur', as I call it, does the trick on serrated blades.

My beloved old pocketknife, a Gerber EZ-Out, had gotten to a bad state. I use it for everything, including some tasks that I'd be ashamed to mention. The serrated edge and the standard edges had dulled, and the standard edge a bit rolled.

Note: Although I suppose you can use the PocketPal freehand, I don't. I hold the tool down on a table (or bench) edge to control it. The carbide cutters take a fair amount of pressure to work well.

The Pocket Pal made short work of the bad edge, with the carbide sharpener actually pulling some slivers of steel (ATS34, if you care) off the edge. The ceramic tool then put a pretty nice dress on the blade. The spur took care of the serrated edge in no time!

I then took on the kitchen knives. They were in good shape, but I figured I could get a dressed edge. Well, the Gerber kitchen knives (6 and 8-inch) and the various blades in the Wustof set took only a few strokes, and they are REALLY SHARP! (as my wife tells me).

Two cautions: Use a newspaper under the PocketPal when you use it on a table, to avoid damaging the table or the blade. Second, when you use the spur, be very careful of your angle, as the spur is fairly aggressive, and you can really mess up the serrated edge.

A great little tool; well worth the money!

I'm not too sure about the 'Pocket' part though. It's a good sized (almost 3") tool.

Rating :

Outstanding Mid-Range Sharpener

Outstanding compact, easy to use tool for beginners as well as for daily knife users. Quickly puts a good working edge on mid-range knives for daily use. My trusty Gerber LST has never been happier. Also gets the hardest steels and titanium blades about 90% of the way there, and even quickly puts a decent edge on $3 import knives (which will need to repeated too often on el-cheapo stainless knives) just be gentle.

Rayovac's SE3DLN has an energy efficient LED that never needs to be replaced. With an EZ find light, a tent hook, and water resistant finish, there is no reason to go on your next camping trip with out it. Features 3 light modes: high, low, and strobe. 150 hour battery life. Carrying high power LEDs, machined from aircraft grade aluminum, and sporting a high end attitude, this light is Xtreme.

Customer Review :

Perfect

I purchased this for my camping trip to the Smokies and I love it! It is very bright, even on the low setting. The strobe is very annoying, but will definitely serve its purpose in attracting attention in a time of need! This is the best lantern out there for the money, in my opinion. You will not regret the purchase.

I will, like others have, suggest that you remove the batteries for storage. The flashing green LED on the front will drain your batteries after a while.

Rating :

Excellent Light

This is a great emergency lantern. I was impressed with how much it lights up a room. The lantern also feels pretty solid for only $25. I still wouldn't want to drop it since the light housing could break. As with other reviewers I feel the green blinking light is useless. Its not annoying to me nor am I worried about it draining power, it simply isn't bright enough to do any good. Also, there were some complaints about the battery installation. I can't really say I had much of a problem with putting the batteries in. It did take me a few seconds to figure it out, but it is simple. There were arrows indicating where to place the bottom piece. Even if the arrows are not there you can see the proper orientation since it will only go in one way. I am sure they still could have come up with something easier. but it wasn't a problem for me. Overall, these are great to have around the house for when the power goes out. For the price I am impressed.

Rating :

Wonderful Lantern.

This lantern is very bright and excellent for camping or emergency use. The size is smaller than it looks in the picture, so it is easy to carry. Besides, given the price, this is definitely a good buy. I would recommend it to any friends who are looking for a good lantern.

Rating :

Lots of light in a small package

This is perfect for the tent or, in my case, the tent trailer. I like the fact that this light is compact, which means it can fit in our camping gear box with ease, uses D batteries for extremely long battery life and has 2 settings. The lower setting is slightly less bright than the higher, yet double the battery life. In addition to the handle, there's a hook on the underside, which is what I used to hang it from a support bar within the trailer.

To sum it up, this light is bright, compact and has long battery life. I was using a 4d Coleman florescent, but that's now going to be set aside for this unit.

Rating :

outstanding

Small lantern that puts out the light. Good white light that makes the dark run and hide. Excellent for power outages, have used several times and still on the same battery. My 8 year old had the battery compartment figured out before I got the second lantern package open. Overall these are outstanding.

It's simple and it works !

No stupid batteries to replace !! It works and it's small, it fits in the palm of my hand. I cant find any flaws with this product. Great for the homeowner !

Didn't work

We were super excited to buy this stud finder, because like most reviewers, we have lath and plaster walls. Unfortunately, this just did not work for us. Not sure why our lath and plaster is different, but it only stuck to one place...and I know we have more nails that that. Just not a sure thing.

Works Great - Wall Mounted TV and Guitars

I've wall mounted three large HDTV's with the help of this little thing! About ten guitars too, this stud finder works for me. These are powerful little neodymium magnets, if someone has a pacemaker I'd probably caution against them personally using this as neodymium magnets are said to possibly interfere with pacemakers.

Rating :

The Last Stud Finder You'll Buy

I can't really add anything to the other reviews, just wanted to register my vote for this astonishingly clever little gadget. You might be able to build something like it yourself with rare-earth magnets, but by the time you added a built-in level and durable case, it would have made more sense to just buy this.

What's with amazon's price for this item?

I like this simple, effective studfinder as much as anyone (though I wish they'd make a 'super' model that had more/larger magnets that was even stronger) but what's with amazon's price for this item?

It can be readily had for well below half the asking price at your local giant home supplies store...

Company Stands behind their products

Streamlight is an awesome company and they stand behind their products 100% - what else could you ask for?
This flashlight was given to me as a gift by my son. I used it a lot and eventually the switch failed. My son told me they had a lifetime warranty so I mailed it in and 3 weeks letter I had a replacement light. Anybody who wants to complain about an inexpensive flashlight, even if it failed, when the company will replace it is nuts. This is the best light - it works GREAT and is the size of a pen. I love this company!!!

Rating :

Amazing Light!!!

I have already purchased 2 of these lights. The batteries seem to last forever, and it is extremely bright. This light is small enough to carry in your shirt pocket like an ink pen, but has the brightness of a full size flashlight. I carry one in my car for emergencies. Highly recommended!!!!

believe the hype

for the price it cant be beat, I put blacktape at the end and hold it in my teeth. used it for everything from roadside repairs to pulling out my stitches. great battery life and light output. sturdy too. I saw a doctor using one at my checkup. they get around

Fantastic multi-use light

I'm a big fan of flashlights (what guy isn't?) and this one gets top marks for versatility. You can put it in the pen loop of most backpacks and bags, so it's always handy. I have a couple of these lights, one in each bag I carry regularly, and I use them often because they're right at hand. My high-dollar Surefire lights, on the other hand, are usually at home when I'm dressed for business.

Quality is top-notch. The barrel is metal and very durable. The switch can be used for either momentary light or click on/off. (It baffles me that many lights don't have proper switches that allow for momentary use.) It takes normal batteries, the LED will last forever... what's not to like?

Brightness is above-par given the size of the light. It's not a tactical light, but it's still plenty of light for most any utility work. Beam is even, no dark spots. Color temperature is on the cool side (typical for LEDs), I'd estimate 6,500K.

Overall, for an "always on you" light, this is the one. Leave your mini-mags in the car or toolbox. For a tactical light stick with the 6V lithium, 100+ lumen Surefires and similar.

Rating :

Great little pen flashlight! 5 stars!

This is such a great compact pen light that is a terrific value. Very convenient and well designed as it only takes one hand to turn on / off. LED technology provides for efficient battery life. Will order more of these for other parts of the house. Very handy.

Question : Hand tools or power tools when learning woodworking?
I am new at making furniture and the books ask that we learn the basic skills by hand but I am finding hand tools to be - on the one hand pure and true to the origins of the craft - but on the other hand - very hard to learn to use comfortable - I am ruining a lot of nice stock and its neatly cut edges and surfaces with my tools - is it worth persisting or is woodwork the realm of power tools now?

Answer:
It will take time to become a good carpenter with either one. Mistakes are part of it. I have told apprentices that any damn fool can do it right the first time but it takes a real craftsman to screw it up and then make it look good. Just don't get in too big of a hurry. Try what you want to do on some scrap a cheaper stock until you are comfortable with it. Good luck to ya.

Question : Really! What is the difference between Craftsman Hand Tools and very expensive Brands?
If I were to purchase a new 3/8 inch socket set what would I get for the extra cost if I purchased Mac or Snap-on over Craftsman. I know some friends who think Craftsman hand tools are crap...but they don't say why.

Answer:
For the average shade tree, Craftsman tools are just fine. They have the same warranty as Mac or Snap-on. The professional mechanics usually use the more expensive tools, because the tool man comes to you every week. If you brake a tool or want a new one you don't have to stop and go to Sears to get you replacement. There is also some quality differences for the Mac and Snap-on tools, but they are not important for the average DIYers.

Question : What are some good high quality German made hand tools for automotive repair?
I'm familiar with some of the brand names, but wondered if anyone had any experience with them. Such as, how do the stack up against American brands like Snap-on, Proto, and Craftsman. I own many of the expensive American brands (except Proto, don't know what they are like) and I'm curious if the Germans manufacture hand tools like everything else...meticulous attention to extreme quality and engineered second to NONE.

Answer:
Snap on or Mac tools are second to none even all the professional racers and builders use them

Question : What company makes the best hand tools?
My told told me "hand tools are an investment, get good ones at first because they last you forever."It's hard when there is 304985203945 different brands because chine produces them now and what not. Anyone know any good brands and any good websites that sell them refurbished?

Answer:
A tool that needs to be 'refurbished' wasn't a good tool to begin with. Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. makes the best hand tools, in my opinion.Chinese tools are cheaply made and are cr*p (sorry about the language :-)
