Editorial Review :

Keep drinking chemical- and odor-free water with a new PUR water filter. This pack of three replacement filters fits PUR’s Ultimate Water Filtration Dispenser and Pitcher. They reduce cadmium, cryptosporidium, giardia, lead, mercury, asbestos, copper, zinc, and sediment 96 to 99.99 percent; plus lessen chlorine levels and discoloration.

PUR’s filters are made with activated carbon to reduce chlorine and sediment, and include an ion-exchange resin that helps eliminate lead and copper. For best results, filters should be changed every 40 gallons. While PUR filters rid water of many chemicals, coloration, and bad flavors, they do not soften water or remove fluoride. This package of filters measures 7.9 by 7.6 by 2.7 inches, and weighs 2 pounds. --Jessica Reuling

low price, fast service

This type of Pur filter have served us very well in a water-stand dispenser for the past few years. These replacement filters were offered at an unusually good price, and they arrived within just a few days. We're very pleased.

Long lasting, great tasting

I have been using the same filter for about 4 months, drinking about 16-24 ounces of water a day, and the filter continues to work as great as it did the first day. No cause for complaint.

Rating :

GREAT FILTER! WAY BETTER THAN BRITA!

I purchased this like a week ago and i must say the filter does its job. Water tastes wonderful, very smooth i simply love it.Be aware that the price is better at Walmart. I've seen the pack of 3 filters for only 14.99, so I wont purchase them from Amazon.I am a amazon costumer for years now and i ALWAYS order from Amazon but lately i have been very dissapointed when i found out that i paid more than I should with severall items.

Some are crazy slow, some not

Been using these for a couple of years now, and my only complaint is that sometimes they take 12 -24 hours to filter one gallon of water - and although one might expect that as the filter got dirty it would clog up and slow down, it seems completely arbitrary - one filter will get that slow after 2 days use, while another might take 2 weeks, and yet another will never slow down, and I'll just change it because it's time. So, probably 8 out of 10 times I'm changing the filter before it should be needed because I can't stand to wait so long for it to do it's job. I asked customer service about this when I first started using them, and they said to take it out of the the pitcher and shake it up, but that does nothing.
Still it's a better deal than bottled water, so until I hear of a better one, I guess I'll keep using them...

Super Easy to Install and Works Great

It took me about 10 minutes to install this product in one of my bathrooms. From reading the other reviews I assumed it might be a little tricky, but that the customer service would be good enough to guide me through it. However, from my experience, I'd say that those who needed customer service must have had something funky going on with their toilets or were just not mechanically inclined at all. Relative to installing this product on a modern 1.6 gpf toilet without the ball float mechanism, it couldn't be easier. You'd have to be pretty unfortunate not to get this product to work right out of the box. And it works great. Go save some water!

Rating :

Quick, easy, works great

I purchased this unit as well as a One2Flush dual converter (for a second toilet that did not have the necessary 10" of tank clearance required by the HydroRight). Both work well, but the HydroRight was less expensive ($20 instead of $30 and also qualified for free shipping), easier to install (didn't have to remove the tank, replace gaskets, etc.), faster to install (30 minutes instead of several hours), and worked immediately(the One2Flush required some adjustments that weren't explained in the instructions or on the video, so I spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer support and wasted so much water on test flushes it'll take months to make up for it).

Rating :

Great for just solving flapper problems!

This product doesn't work as promised for 1.6 low flow toilets. The only trick is holding down the short flush button for a few seconds as others have mentioned. But given that - we love this device. There is no "flapper" and therefore no "flapper leaking" problems or tangling with a handle mechanism anymore. We love it! I think it is a quieter flush too! It was easy to install in about 5 minutes.

Rating :

Not working every times

Good idea but sometimes its stay open and leak. At that times you lose all the water saved before. And sometimes the partial flush doesn't work and have to make a full flush.

Rating :

Works as promised

This installed pretty easily even though I have an unusual toilet tank. It looks good, is easy for new users to figure out and so far has been working great for the 3 weeks since installation. I worked out that it should pay for itself in 6 to 12 months.

The instructions weren't perfect though -- I documented my install and poorly noted instructions on my blog -- [..]

Kenmore compatible

I own a Kenmore refrigerator and this filter does fit. Kenmore appliances are manufactured by Whirlpool. Also, this filter works great and lasts about 6 months as intended. FYI, it is more expensive to purchase a filter from Sears.

Rating :

Good filter/ value

This is a good water filter, I just wished it lasted a little longer, but over all good value.

Satisfied

I was happy with this product, quality and price.
I will buy it again when in need.

Great deal on a water filter

I purchased a Kenmore refrigerator this year that used an in-line water filter for ice-maker and water spout. I have used Kenmore products for years and very satisfied with them. I'm not written a review on the Kenmore product, but that is what is using this water filter. When my display on my refrigerator said i needed to replace my water filter I called Sears to purchase the replacement. I was in shell shock of the price. They wanted up to $50 for the filter. I decided to read other reviews and find out more about the specific water filter used by this brand. Found out that you do not need to buy from Sears. I ordered the same brand water filter with out the sears name on it and saved about $15. So I paid around $30 from Amazon. Great price! My previous in-line water filters were external from the fridge, so I didn't need any specific style filter, just one that would fit in the water line. With my new fridge things are a little different. The filter is attached to the fridge under the door. Very simple to replace. I'm glad I found a less expensive way of replacing the water filter for my new fridge. Thanks Amazon....

Frigidaire Water Filter

I have been using these for nearly 8 years now, and find them to be very effective both in cleaning my water as well as improving the taste.

Rating :

New design is faulty and leaks constantly

I have had my Frigidare refrigerator for about 5 years now. The filters used to have a thick housing over the two smaller cylinders and it worked wonderfully. I never experienced any problems with those filters. About 2 years ago they changed the design taking away the outer housing leaving only the two smaller cylinders. Since then I have been through 8 filters in two years. When you cover the outlet hole and blow into the inlet hole, you can see the water spirt out of the side of the cartridge. It doesn't always occur at the top seal; however, many times the leak is in the plastic but you can see where the seam glue has run down to the spot where it's leaking. It appears that the glue they are using is dissolving the weak plastic and causing it to leak. I'm not sure what you can do about it but I just save my receipts and take them back about every 2-4 months when they fail. It's a pain but the manufacturer won't do anything about it. I just won't buy another Frigidare in the future!

Rating :

Expensive but needed

I use this filter for the fridge at my rental unit. Unfortunately the tenants drink a lot of water so I have to replace every 5 months or so and they are not cheap.

Rating :

Good filter!

It takes about 3-4 cycles for the filter to be activated in your fridge. Make sure to run your filter until you don't see anymore specks and you should be good to go. This filter usually lasts longer than usual too, so you don't have to waste too much money replacing them.

Questions & Answers
Question : How much would it cost to put electric and plumbing into a new 800 square feet home?
We wont be paying much for labor, because my fiancee's has an uncle who is an electrician, and an uncle who is a plumber. There has already been electricity and plumbing ran to the area, i dont know what its called. Basically there used to be a trailor there, so they needed electricity and plumbing. Now we are building a small cottage house on the land.Any estimates?I live in Wisconsin, (US)

Answer:
Ask your uncles. There would be no way to estimate with contractors doing the work, let alone family members. Talk to them. They will give you the materials you need, as well as labor charges. Your utilities can give you their connection fees. Good luck

Question : Can i start my own plumbing business without a masters or journeymen license?
I have been doing plumbing for about 7 years and want to start doing work for myself.I want to know what options do i have.I want to put out business cards for myself.I completed the apprenticeship program for plumbing.I received a certificate from the state of Florida certifying me as a plumber. It also gave me an id number.I want to know if this certificate is enough or do i need more to start, operate and run my own business. If anyone knows please help.

Answer:
The Florida certificate is enough

Question : Plumbing question if anyone knows the answer, but can enamel-building toothpaste and rinses add to?
plumbing problems. My drains are going so slow, and a few months ago we changed to enamel-strengthening toothpaste and a cavity-fighting rinse. Can the minerals that build strength to tooth surfaces gunk up the pipes? Thanks, Mark.

Answer:
I don't know but put some enzyme drain cleaner in it and it will eat all the scum out of the pipes.

Question : plumbing....?
my drain in my sink in my bathrooms all clogged up.. ive tried daino, no effect... em i gonna have to take the whole thing apart? Thanks

Answer:
Oddjobs, it's not always a PEE trap, it can be a JAY trap depending on how it was installed. Either one can be used and that's why most people in the business just use the word "trap" because that's what it does. Most people thinks it's called that because it traps things that fall down the drain but in reality, it's called a trap because it traps sewer gases not allowing them into living space. All drains should have some type of trap.

Question : +++ Plumbing +++?
My Toilet keeps on getting cloged up.. I have to plunger it at least 4 times a day. What can I do? Should I call a plumber or should I call my landlord to fix this or is there a way to fix it myself? It doesn't overflow but it is backed up and after plungering the water goes down but it's becoming a pain to unclog it everyday!

Answer:
it needs to be augered. there is probably something stuck in it. things get stuck in trap in toilet and plunging does not always fix the problem, an auger is a snake made for the toilet and very simple to use. you can purchase one at most hardware stores .

Question : How to get started in the plumbing field?
How does an individual get started in the field of plumbing? Does one need to get enrolled in a trade school first? Or do plumbing companies offer apprenticeship programs? How often is it that a company will hire someone without experience and train them?

Answer:
hi Aaron, one way is to look for a local union by where you live. they would normally have an apprenticeship program. the one i went to was for 5yrs 2 nights a week for 4 hours while working in the trade. they prepare you for your state exam. but if you don't want to do the apprenticeship . you can find out with building codes compliance office what are requirements for plumbers license where you live, some states are different. where i live you show proof of 3 yrs working in the trade and you can take the exam. now the exam is no cake walk. let me tell you that with the program you learn more because you have people teaching you at work and at school.in the other hand the other way could be a faster way of getting your license.and by the way you find out the dates and or schedules of upcoming test with the code compliance office in your area that's where you would pay for your test.

Question : What does it mean when a house needs new plumbing?
A realtor told this to my fiance on a house. Rather than going ahead and paying an inspector, what does this mean? What does "new plumbing" entail?

Answer:
well it depends on WHAT he told her....if he said new plumbing then he probably means new water AND drain lines......that would be a repipe of both systems.....but if he said new kitchen lines or bathroom lines then he meant just that......find out EXACTLY what her told her....NOW after saying that i would STILL get the inspector bacause he doesnt just check plumbing...he looks at the WHOLE house.....the framing and support.....electrical.....plumbing....foundation......roof......walls....EVERYTHING....so i would definitely get the inspector that way u will know everything thats needs fixing and not just the plumbing

Question : How to work on plumbing and electrical in a non basement house ?
I am a pretty good DIY plumber and an okay DIY electrician. However, in every home where I had to do the work always had a basement or crawl space. I am getting ready to buy a house without either and my question is:How do you access the plumbing and electrical if you can't get to it from the basement. I know it's in the walls and I will probably have to cut sheet rock to get to it. But I guess what I'm really asking is how do you detect where the exact problem is? Whether it be a leaky pipe or running an extra outlet.I guess I will have to access wiring from the attic but still not sure about plumbing.Thanks.

Answer:
There are meters to help you figure out which wire from your panel box is "dead", ask at the home improvement store which will work with your needs. Also, There may be major leaks (if the house is on a solid concrete floor) that requires a professional. However, a standard stud-finder will help locate pipes in the walls, or if you have the old galvanized pipes, try a magnet. Also, before you buy the house, have a professional inspection done so if there are leaks or electric problems that propose a fire hazard, you will have a heads up on them and may be able to negotiate a lower buying price to compensate for the cost of repairs.

Question : How much does plumbing cost to start a Yogurt shop?
I am starting a Yogurt Shop like Pinkberry. I am planning to lease a 800 sq ft space. The space was a previously a office, a rectangular layout. It does have a bathroom in the back, what would be the rough amount of cost to get the adequate plumbing in there?

Answer:
You would really have to contact a commercial plumber for this.

Question : What information is needed in order to get an estimate on plumbing cost?
I am looking to buy a property, mobile home on land. All it needs is new plumbing work, it used to have it but no longer does after its been sittingWhat all information do I need to call to get estimates on how much it will cost for plumbing? I cannot have somebody go out there since it is in the middle of no where and I do not own it yet.....I checked everything else it only needs plumbing

Answer:
The first respondent is absolutely correct. If you can contact a local plumber, tell him / the company what you need to have installed, as in how many fixtures, drains, etc. You may be able to get a ball park price on the plumbing installation.Keep in mind however, that in order to install the plumbing (water supply) to all the fixtures, the walls and crawlspace will be torn apart all over the mobile home. The repair costs of these are rarely included in any plumbers' bids. If you want to have expensive repair costs, ALWAYS have your plumber do your sheetrock repair. The other consideration is the crawlspace repairs. In order to get access to all the water piping in the floor, the vapor barrier and insulation must be cut and removed for access. The resultant mess is repairable, but usually it takes somebody who really knows their stuff to put a vapor/ rodent barrier back correctly so that it protects the system and the house from freezing.I have seen more than a few cases that wasnt done, and I ended up chasing the frozen piping the full length of the house, repiping the whole house in the dead of winter. The cost of doing the plumbing work and repairs afterwards will probably cost nearly half the cost of moving another mobile home/manufactured house to the lot. I hope the PROPERTY purchase is a good one, at a great price for you.Good luck.
