Mailbox

I was very happy with this mailbox. The only problem with it is that small packages don't fit.

So far so good.....

Bought two of these three months ago and they look elegant and are withstanding the eclectic mix of intense sun and torrential rain that we've been having. The lockable security flap is also a great feature.

Attractive Locking Mailbox. Nice Bright White. Mounting Screws Not Included. Some Magazines will Not Fit Through Slot.

This mailbox is attractive & works well with many different style houses. I was able to see one of these boxes in our local big box warehouse store, but they did not have the bright white color in stock.

Per the packaging information, the mailbox measures:
12-1/2"H x 9-1/2"W x 4D"D

My mailbox actually measures out at 12-1/4"H at the tallest part - the back that goes up against the house. The front measures in at 11-1/2". The other measurements are the same on my mailbox.

A magazine will fit flat inside the mailbox; however, if you choose to use the locking inner flap, some magazines may not easily slide through the mail slot or may not go in at all (ie, Thicker, larger size magazines will not fit - Real Simple, Oprah. Some larger size, but not so thick magazines will fit by bending the corner - The Old House, Organic Gardening. Some magazines will fit in with no effort - Bon Appetit, Dwell).

The decorative "Mail" emblem adds a nice touch & can be used if you want it. It is made of brass colored plastic & is adhered to the mailbox by 4 small bits of double-sided foam tape. The decorative emblem will not last the lifetime of the mailbox.

Install using 2 mounting screws (not included).

Overall, I like this mailbox because it is a nice size & looks attractive on the house. The magazine thing could be an issue for some, so that is why I only gave the mailbox 4 stars. For attractiveness, style and price-point, I'd give the mailbox 5 stars.

Rain and bugs can get in

I purchased one of these mailboxes 3 years ago from Home Depot, and I've had enough. I'm on Amazon looking for a new mailbox, and it really frosts me to see this one here.

First off, the opening to my mailbox faces west. When there's a driving rain from the west, the mail gets wet. Fail #1.

If I'm not around immediately after a driving rain, and the mail gets wet, ants decide to move into the mailbox. Fail #2.

If I take my time getting around to the ants, and it's late summer/early fall, yellowjackets were able to get in, and build a nest. Final fail.

I want my mailbox to protect my mail from the elements. If it can't do that, why would I want it as a mailbox? Key or not, it doesn't keep my mail safe.

Nice Mailbox, but Not Secure

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RLXNC3RSAWFGE It's a nice mailbox, EXCEPT...

1. People can reach through the slot and grab your mail.

2. Large envelopes hang up on the textured bottom plate. Your mail will sometimes be left sitting in the mail slot.

3. You can break the door open with your bare hands. Both the lock tab and hinge are held in place by cheap plastic flanges.

4. You can lift the top off after removing 9 exposed screws.

#1 and #2 are inexcusable because you'll never know for sure whether some of your mail has been stolen.

If you're handy, you can modify the box to solve #1, #2, and #4 -- See below.

Why would something this bad get 3 stars? Because most of the other locking mailboxes on the market are also feeble. The $100-$200 mailboxes are more tamper-resistant, but still somewhat pry-able and fish-able. Most are prone to rust (as is this mailbox), and some of them hold less mail (large pieces don't lie flat) .

The world is still waiting for a well designed, affordable locking mailbox.

Pro's:

Tasteful, clean look
Mail up to 10"x13" will go in flat & lay flat
Holds a lot of vacation mail (11" x 17-1/2" x appx 4-1/2")

Cons:

Not at all secure (See #1-#4 above)
Overpriced for what it is.

Fixes:

1. Attach some half inch plywood to the bottom of the mail slot, reducing it from 1-1/2" high to 1" high.

2. Put Plexiglas, aluminum, or varnished 1/4" plywood on the floor of the mail box so that large envelopes will slide back without getting hung up.

3. No easy fix, but fix #1 makes it hard to pull door open with bare hands.

4. Fill the Phillips screw heads with Liquid Nails or similar glue.

Pricing: It jumps around. If you do buy this wait for low tide - 74 buckss.

Mail is safe in this mailbox

We had a special need. We are gone during the week and home on weekends. We shopped all the local huge chain stores and could not find a curbside locking mailbox that my wife couldn't just put her hand and arm in the slot. Our mail has been safe in this mailbox. The slot is just the right size to accept larger mail, but keep out someone's hand and arm to retrieve it. We were also very pleased by the fast, safe delivery.

I bought this item

The speed of shipping this item was great, but when I received it I opened it and found a loose screw inside the package, and the hinge pin was coming out about 3/4" on one end. I realigned the hinge and tapped the hinge pin back in and it looked okay, except for a depression in the top black plastic part of the mailbox. In the interior part of the mailbox, the locking door panel appears to have a large gap on the base of the panel, the mail slot for delivering mail into is rather large also and I can place my hand inside quite easily. A childs' hand and arm or teenagers' could fit inside the incoming mailslot quite easily....

All in all, I couldn't find any security mailboxes to look at in the surrounding area and the locksmith I went to didn't have any to look at either,... I decided to keep the mailbox anyway, as I really didn't have time to look around, and the others I found on the internet were even more pricey than this one, even though they were probably more secure ...

.... it is hard to tell from looking at pages on the internet just how cheap something is assembled, and how unsecure it is, until you get it..... but at least it is a little more secure-looking than a regular mailbox if you don't examine it too closely.

A Very Substantial Mailbox

Design is good. Mine was missing one of the nine screws holding the top in place, but that was easily fixed.

Questions & Answers
Question : Is it okay to walk to the end of the block to get my mail when my 11 month old is sleeping?
It would only take me 5 minutes MAX. We have one of those security mailboxes where the whole blocks' are in those lock boxes. I have mixed feelings. I usually wait for my husband to get the mail. Or put her in the stroller, which is actually a pain in the butt.

Answer:
Provided she cannot escape from her sleeping quarters, you're good.Lol @ tards thumbing these answers down.Think about it, if you took 5 minutes to make a sandwich, would it be any different?

Question : i forgot my password and security Q how i can access my mailbox on yahoo?
where i post my request . i am not able to find any helpdesk number of yahoo or mail id please help me.i am not able to access secondry mail

Answer:
If you have provided any secondary email address for your account during creation then use that one to reset password.Go to you yahoo sign in page and click on " i can't access my a/c" and follow the steps.

Question : I forget my password and security answer.I just can open my mailbox from my yahoo messenger. What I have to do?
I would like yahoo to send me the password through my mailbox!

Answer:
Contact yahoo , or go to options if you can get to it and change your password

Question : Can I give a password to a Yahoo mail folder for extreme security purposes?
I have several folders in my Yahoo mailbox that I wish to secure even further. How do I (or can I?) ascribe a password to them such as I do in securing documents on my desktop, etc.?

Answer:
I do not know of a way... Sorry. Wish I could help. The only thing that I recommend is using a longer and more difficult password for your E-mail.

Question : ad.yieldmanager keeps trying to enter, according to security. This is constantly annoying! What's there to do?
Practically every time I click my mouse in all of my Yahoo mailboxes my security center pops up saying that ad.yieldmanager is trying to enter. I'm so sick of clicking "no" constantly. Would I be better of letting them in? At least I wouldn't have the constant aggravation of clicking "no" every few seconds. I already have Spybot and AVG which have cut down tremendously on SPAM.

Answer:
Delete your cookies

Question : can landlord take entire security deposit in this situation?
In our lease it says that we technically are renting the apartment until the landlord receives all of the keys back. Well when we left the apartment he was on vacation for a couple weeks and then we couldn't get a hold of him for a couple more. So he took our security deposit and said since he didn't have the keys he had the right to charge us for the month of rent which we still had the keys as it said in the lease. Is he allowed to do this even though in my opinion he actively avoided getting in contact with us no phone calls, no place to leave the keys for him(we didn't want to drop them in his mailbox while he was on vacation). Also we were all unaware of this clause in the lease.

Answer:
First, being unaware of a clause is not an argument that would stand up. Second, you made no viable attempt to return the keys. You should have made arrangements during your initial notice of evacuation to return those keys. In absence of that you should've taken them and placed them in a secure envelope and placed said envelope into a UPS or Fed Ex mailer that you require a delivery signature for. That way you would have had dated proof of your attempt to return the keys.Small claims or an attorney could easily cost you far more than the deposit in this situation. However, the inverse is also true. The threat of litigation could shake him loose with an agreed amount (say half) leaving neither party happy, nor mad.

Question : How much would an IT consultant charge to setup a complete Linux Mail server?
Does anyone know how much an IT consultant could possibly charge to set up a complete Linux Mail server from start to finish? I'm talking about the whole works here. Remote Admin, Security, User Mailboxes, Quota, Spam Protection, Database setup, Web mail, Outlook facility, auto update and backups, installed on site, etc. Just curious as to what something like this would cost if done professionally?

Answer:
You can get the training support to build your own Postfix mail server for around $500 US athttp://www.postfixmail.com

Question : My security certificate warning comes up when I try to get into my mailbox. Is it safe to click yes to enter?
How do I know I am on the official yahoo site before clicking yes?

Answer:
What warning does it say? If it is not normal for this to happen, then it could be a man in the middle attack where you are presented with a fake certificate. It could also be as simple as your time being wrong on the system. If you are on yahoo, that shouldn't be happening. Someone doing a MITM attack would be weird, but anything is possible.

Question : Any suggested small outdoor security cameras?
Need something small and wireless that can transmit back to my computer if possible, without spending TONS of money. Our town has a lot of vandalism, but recently our mailbox has been bashed 4 times in the past 10 days or so- yesterday they put rotting pumpkin on top of our mail. The mailbox is impossible to see from the house, and hard to find a good stake out spot without being seen, so I need a small camera to put up in a tree. Must be small, wirelss, cheap-ish.

Answer:
I have the same problem. I use JCSurveillance.com for my security cameras.http://jcsurveillance.com/id11.htmlJust ask them. They can help you out!!!

Question : If a W2 form never arrives in the mail is that a security risk and if so, what should I do?
I should have received my W2 form in the mail last week. I can get a duplicate mailed to me, but the worst case scenario is that this form is in the hands of someone dishonest perhaps by being put in the wrong mailbox by mistake, or some other way. By virtue of not having it arrive at my house, should I take any action to ensure my identify isn't stolen? Please note that I'm not concerned with what others could do with the W2 form itself, but the personal information on it; i.e., ID theft.

Answer:
w-2's did not need to be mailed until this past Monday, Feb 2nd. - maybe it's in the mail to you now. Do they have your current address? did you call the company to see when it was mailed?
