Editorial Review :
Highly functional for backcountry use, the Petzl Tikkina Headlamp is not only lightweight at just 2.8 ounces including the batteries, it offers a comfortable headband and the ability to rotate the beam upward or downward for the best possible aim. The burn time is attractive to those who carry their gear on their back too, providing over 140 hours of usable light before the batteries need replacing. Rated for all conditions use, the Petzl Tikkina Headlamp continues to shine in driving rain or snow.

Husband loves the headlamp
My husband picked this out and i bought it off his wish list. He is very happy with it.

Much brighter than I thought.
I have bought twenty dollar flashlights before and this is significantly brighter. The packaging says something like 125 hour battery life. Haven't had it that long, but I'm hopeful. Overall it will be a great addition to my camp pack.

Works great but a little heavy
This little guy is easy to pack and useful in so many situations. From reading in bed at night, playing cards at night at the campsite, or heading out to the bathroom, this will light the way while keeping your hands free. When you're wearing it, you can tell it's there (a little on the heavy side) and the strap will leave a mark after while. It's the economical way to go and will get the job done. Petzl is a great brand and won't let you down.
For those who want to spluge, I'd recommend the Tikka version -- more lighting options, additional range of motion on the light itself, and a little less bulky (Petzl E93 PS Tikka 2 Headlamp, Storm Gray or Petzl E97 PM Tikka Plus 2 Headlamp, Mystic Gray).

Blind your frineds!!!
Bought it for the price and high ratings. Worked great on my first use. Went on a hike that involved a short trip into caves. Loved it! It was comfortable and I kept forgetting I was wearing it. When I would turn to face someone I would blind them. Was hilarious to me and I was comforted by its ability to blind my friends. Others were using flashlights and when I would turn my headlamp off it was as if they were holding candles. Amazing how wide the beam is. Now I'm just looking for more excuses to blind my friends!

Great little contraption
Shipped very promptly. I have never used a product like this but it really works well for night fishing and walking along the beach after dark. Very comfortable to wear. Hardly know you have it on.

There are better options for your money.
I recently purchased both this headlamp, and a similar model from Energizer, (Energizer 6 LED Headlight) and my experiences have been quite different with each. This is my first Amazon review, so bear with me:
First, the price. The Petzl 4-LED headlamp is $30 plus, whereas the Energizer 6-LED is approximately $20. More light for less cash. Score one for Energizer.
Secondly, the construction. The plastic housing used on the Petzl model seems far less rugged than the Energizer. In further comparison, the elastic headband just seems cheaply produced. Then there's the battery compartment. It's a bit awkward, and took me a few minutes to get the housing to close again properly. The lamp itself does have a smaller body than its cousin, but not by much.
Finally, the functionality. The Petzl model's swivel is notched and gives four angles of possible illumination. The Energizer model's swivel is smooth, and gives what I'd approximate to be 120 degrees of light. The Petzl might give 40 degrees. The red filter is just a cheap flap of red translucent plastic. Really not much to say about that.
The reason I give this product three stars is because it does what it's supposed to do. It'll give you a decent hands-free lighting option wether you're in the woods or trying to fix your car on the side of the road. I'm not affiliated with Energizer, but as the title says, there are better options for your money.

50/50
I ordered two of the headlamps, one works fine, the other would not stay closed. I finally figured out that the battery was not seating correctly and kept the cover from closing shut.Sent it back, not interested in trying it again.

Very weak light for such a high price...
I received this light one day and the next day it was gone. Why? Because its really an expensive and weak light for your money.I felt cheated since I got a cheap 20 dollar headlamp(~50 lumens) at a local mega store and it outshined this overpriced piece of junk. The light appeared a blueish tint, and very weak, it was hard to make out anything past 50 ft even on the max setting. so 35 lumens for 43 bucks...yea outrageously overpriced. I dont see how this can maintain a 4 1/2 stars
After i returned this i found another headlamp for about 20 dollars more than the petzl and it made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!. My friend had lent me his headlamp which he uses for fishing and it is extraordinarily bright. So i looked for his headlamp on the net and stumbled upon the fenix hp10(225 lumens!). Lets just say, on the 2nd brightness(out of 4 illumination modes)setting of the hp10, it outshined the petzl which was set on the max setting! The search was over for a decent headlamp, go for this one, u wont regret it!

Protected by an unbreakable polycarbonate lens, the seven LEDs provide 50 lumens of light for distance illumination. confort and quality
This headlamp is awsome, has 3 diferent options of led using, it's possible to use 1, 3 or all leds at the same time. I also got impressed about the light intensity from the leds, plus it fits very confortable in the head. If you need light with free-hands that's a must have.

LED Headlamp
I really like this headlamp. It's well-made and powerful. I had intended it for hiking and for occasional use around the yard at night. But I have found that it's excellent for all inside home repair work. Working under a sink, for instance. No need to hold a flashlight or set up a lamp. I've used other headlamps for home and auto work but the brightness and endurance of this one make it a better experience.

Great Investment for Work
I work road construction, and this has been the year of the night work. I have an LED flashlight, but it was a problem with rummaging through a tool box, or trying to fix a generator to get the light plants up and running. I did see a few cheaper headlamps at the local hardware store, but decided to check amazon.
I came across the Streamlight 61052, and decided to give it a try. The build quality is excellent, with gaskets for the battery door and lens surround. I immediately got the product out of the package and attached it to my hardhat, batteries installed I was out the door.
I arrived at the project, and almost forgot I had the headlamp on...I peered into our job trailer straining my eyes for the equipment I needed, until that little light came on above my head...literally!
The three brightness settings are one of the greatest features of this lamp, the choices are:
1 press= 1 Led 2 presses= 3 Led's 3 presses= 7 Led's 4 presses= OFF
Even with only 1 Led lit, the area in front of you is filled with brilliant white light, and with all 7 on, you feel like its noon! I would highly recommend this headlight, to anybody needing a little extra light for any activity. I personally cant wait to try this thing outside of work, maybe for some fishing, or camping!

Septor 61052 led Headlamp
I have used so many headlamps over the years I have lost count. Everyone of the previous ones had one thing or another I did not like. (Not bright enough, undependable, runs batteries down when not in use, has 4 different settings when only one does what it is supposed to, "provide ample light" and on and on.) This one has 3 useful settings. The dimmest one is bright enough to work with, the brightest one is very bright for those hard to see places like working under a car in a very tight, dark location. I have no need for the shop lights since buying this headlamp. It is easy to use and is easy to clean up, adjust angle, adjust straps, etc.

Light and bright
Nice headlamp. Very light and comfortable. Easy to move around in camp after dark.
Used bright, dim and red modes. Easy to switch modes. Versatile.
Red mode is nice, used often to preserve night vision.
Have only used for ~6hrs can't comment on battery life, alkalines still strong.

overpriced for performance
This headlamp was not as bright as I hoped it would be. The light spread is not very great either (with the plastic slide in position). I do like that it has a very loud high pitched whistle for emergency purposes. Also, the light does not stay bright the duration of the battery life, it dims as the batteries drain.

Great illumination
This device cost a little more than other brands but it is well worth it. I used it while hiking and it lit up the pathways perfectly. It made my journey pleasant and safe. Also, knowing that it had a flashing red LED in case of emergency, gave me peace of mind while moving about in the middle of nowhere.

Extra bright, Don't look people in the eyes.
Petzel headlamps keep getting better and better. I use it when hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing after dark. Like any headlamp it is rude to look at someone without tipping your headlamp to avoid blinding them. With this lamp, you may have to lead them around while the dazzle dissipates.

Great headlamp
Great product. Always a fan of Petzl lights. I use it for working around aircraft at night for inspection of the aircraft. The white light is extremely bright and the red lens also provides great visibility without ruining your dark adaptation. The only thing that I don't like is having to push the button to "scroll" through the different settings including switching to the red lamp. I have found this is usually the case with most headlamps, so its not that big of an issue.

Perfectly designed 2 AAA headlamp!
I am extremely happy with this perfectly designed 2 (TWO) AAA battery headlamp. Often you will find very well designed products from newer companies before they change the design to fit what the 'consumer' desires. The design is often very well thought through for it's initial release and it appears that is the case here.

Nothing wrong with this but the local walmart store has a better headlamp
This lamp serves the purpose. I wasnt too crazy about the single lamp. I recently used this on a 6 hour over night hike and it worked well and was reasonably bright. The lamp seemed of some what cheaper quality one than the energizer one i bought in walmart which also has the laser in case you need to be rescued etc
I could see a laser beam from one of those headlamps about a mile away. Unlike the energizer this headlamp has only one lamp. The enrgizer one has multiple modes.

I used this headlamp to climb Mt Fuji......started the climb at 8 pm and used the light until about 3am.The battery lasted the whole time and it was fairly comfortable. For the price i would definetly suggest this product to others preparing for a night hike/climb.

Great light - tilt feature OK
This is a great value headlamp. It's not as robust as my Petzl lamp, but it's far cheaper. My only complaint is the angle adjustment is soft and can shift while you walk, so sometimes I have to re-adjust it as I go. The lamp is very bright and quite effective even at reasonable distances.

It's not a novel, it's a review
The light has worked great. We use it to check our dogs ears and it has also been used as a reading light. Only negative is the battery instillation.

Question : need help with LED light DIY project?
ok what im looking for is a simple project. i like to take walks closer to night time around my area with my stroller as this often gets my son to fall asleep. however i would like to add perhaps two mini LED kinda flashlights (like headlights for a car but smaller) at the bottom of my stroller to light up my path.. (gotta watch out for that dog poo) i would imagine i could just buy a simple bicycle headlamp and attach it.. but i want to run the wire up to the handle with a toggle switch so i can turn it on or off rather then bending over to do it.. im not lazy haha i just want it to be cool. also i want the LED cause i dont want anything getting too hot. now i dont need a super powerful bulb like signaling batman or something.. but it does need to light up the path a wee bit. sooooo.. any simple ideas.. can i buy led flashlight and take it apart and extend the wires to a toggle switch.. or should i just start from scratch.. im really just looking if someone has done something like this before or would know a simple plan of attack for this. thanks in advanced
Answer:
Menard's carries led rope lights that have a little solar panel attached to them just leave out in the sun during the day and then put them around the stroller when you go on your walks.

Question : What on Earth did I see?
My boyfriend, Andrew, our friend, Sheldon, and I went bowhunting last night. I sat in a tree stand about 1/2 a mile away from Drew. About sunset, Drew let me know that there was a buck headed in my direction, but the way I was sitting in my stand, I couldn't turn towards the trail to shoot, so I climbed down out of my stand and stood against the tree and waited...and waited...and waited...never saw the buck. When it was too dark to shoot, I climbed back up and undid my tree stand, took out the pegs, packed everything up, put my backpack on my stand. I was a little creeped out. It was dark, and there was a half moon. Silly me, I started thinking about ghosts and creepy things walking around in the woods. And then I told myself there was no such thing as ghosts or spirits (I've never believed in them...until last night). I swung my stand on, but I couldn't get one of the shoulder straps to fit comfortably, so I took it back off to readjust the backpack. There was suddenly a dim light shining on me and I turned and was surprised to see whom I thought was Andrew or Sheldon about twenty feet away, coming around the curve in the trail with his headlamp on. I turned back to what I was doing and the light went out. I turned around again to ask if he'd turn the light back on so I could see what I was doing. No one there. As in NOBODY standing there, nobody walking past me...nothing. He would have had to walk RIGHT past me to continue down the trail. The moon was out enought that I could see the trail perfectly, and...aside from myself, there was NO ONE on it. I swung my stand back on, and started walking slowly up the trail. I said, "Andrew? Andrew..." and got no answer. I randomly thought how loud my feet sounded, crunching on the leaves, and then realized that when the light had shone on me, I hadn't heard anyone walking. With all the leaves on the ground, you could hear a person approaching from 60, 70 feet away. The light had been 20 feet from me and I hadn't heard a thing. If they'd walked off the trail down in the draw (which would have been a stupid move on their part bc it was a ten foot drop straight down), they would've made even more noise than on the trail. I hadn't heard ANYTHING. And still, I couldn't quite believe it. I walked slowly up the trail, calling Sheldon's and Andrew's names once or twice, telling them this wasn't funny, peeking around every tree, expecting Andrew or Sheldon to jump out and try to scare me. And it never happened. I didn't become genuinely scared until I stopped where the trail meets the road and looked down to where my stand had been, with the moon shining bright as a spotlight on the trail, my tree, the field beside it. And realized that if there HAD been someone wearing that headlamp, I would have seen them under it, what with all the moonlight shining all over the place. I ran back to the car as fast as my little legs would carry me. My suspicions were confirmed when Andrew came walking towards me across the parking lot with his green headlamp on. The moon was blocked by the trees, but I had heard him approaching from at least fifty feet away, and when he stepped out onto the parking lot, even in the dark, I could see his outline against the trees. And STILL I just couldn't believe it. I asked Sheldon if he'd walked down the trail twenty minutes earlier, but he'd been a mile away, packing up his stuff. He also didn't have his white headlamp with him but even if he had, it's just like mine, an LED light, and much too harsh to be the soft light that approached me in the woods. He had a flashlight, but it was really bright, and the light I saw had been fairly dim. Andrew doesn't even have a white headlamp. It's green (because for some reason, deer can't see green light). I finally accepted the fact that I had seen something I could not explain. Needless to say, it creeped me the fuck out. I asked Andrew about it, and he told me that this actually happens to a lot of people hunting in the woods. We live in southern Missouri, down in the Ozarks, and I do know that this is where my ancestors, Osage Indians, lived. (My great-grandma Turner is 3/4 Osage Indian). Drew told me that he's come to accept the fact that the Indians were onto something in the belief that there are spirits living in everything.So...any ideas?I'm sorry it's so long, I just wanted to get EVERYTHING in there...Ok, I know a bunch of people are against hunting, but I would rather eat something I killed myself, that's had a chance to live and mate and run free and even escape, especially since I have to hide and ambush like a mountain lion or wolf, than something that's lived in a pen all it's life, in cramped an inhumane conditions, it's only purpose is to be eaten
Answer:
I do believe it was a spirit/ghost bcoz in my culture ( I am North African btw...from Algeria), we don't allow kids to play in the woods after the sun starts coming down. when I asked my grandparents, they said spirits come out and wander without a purpose until the sun rises the next day..........and in my culture, forests are haunted and it is an accepted concept in Africa...........I hope I helped...lol

Question : What is the difference between LEDs and incandescent bulbs?
And why are LEDs so much more efficient? And why have bright LEDs only recently started to replace incandescent lights (such as in flashlights and headlamps), even though they have been around for decades?
Answer:
An incandescent lamps is basically a coil of fine metal wire which heats up to incandescence (hence the name) when electric current goes through. As the wire heats up its resistance *increases* and therefore limits the amount of current that can flow. An incandescent is rated for a certain voltage. For instance a 110Volt lamp should be connected to a 110V source. Higher and the lamp blows. Lower and it will not achieve full brightness. An LED is a semiconductor device, a diode in this case. Unlike an incandescent it has a positive and negative terminal. The LED gives off light of a particular frequency when direct current is passed through the material. An LED has practically no internal resistance that can limit the amount of current through it. Therefore a current limiting device (a resistor, for example) must be used in conjunction with an LED (this will be built into LED bulbs that replace incandescents). Unlike an incandescent, the voltage across an LED remains nearly constant. You can apply 110 or 220 volts and the LED will still have a forward voltage of just a couple of volts. But unless you limit the current, powering an LED directly from a voltage source will burn it out--it acts like a short circuit. As stated an LED has a positive and negative terminal. If it is connected incorrectly to a DC source--polarities are reversed--the LED might be ruined.

Question : UK Electric Battery Query?
I recently bought a similar light to this from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/56-LED-Head-Lamp-HeadLamp-Torch-Camping-FlashLight-o6_W0QQitemZ200173349055QQi hZ010QQcategoryZ106984QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemwhich i use on my helmet to ride off road between pubs in the dark with my mates. Its quite bright but it seriously eats batteries. It uses 3x AAA type and i recently bought duracell batteries for it and on its maximum brighness it lasted about 2 1/2 hours.I take a rucksack and im thinking about wiring up some larger batteries that would last longer. Rechargeable batteries dont seem to last long so i thought that if i got some bigger batteries eg 'C' Type and kept them in my rucksack with a wire running to the light it might solve the problem......but lifes never that easy, is it?I was hoping that someone with some electrical knowledge could advise me on a CHEAP ( i'm currently dead skint!) way of powering this light for about 2 hours at a time. Many thanks
Answer:
Following along the lines of your suggestion, I would buy a plastic 3 AA battery holder that connects the 3 batts in series. You might want to test the existing unit with a voltmeter to make double sure I am correct that it does run off 4.5 V and not 1.5 V. I.e. batts in series. The holders can be ordered at www.digikey.com or www.mouser.com.Then solder the long wire pair between the holder and the LED device. Make sure you get the polarity correct. If the device has solid state electronics inside, the wrong polarity could kill it.Standard good grade AA alkaline batts will last much much longer than the AAA batts. My guess is maybe 5X to 8X longer.

Question : I need a portable blacklight for hunting scorpions. Recommendations please?
I live in Arizona. I found a scorpion in my garage last month, and last night I almost stepped on one in my kitchen. I don't mind them so much outside, but now that they are getting in my house, I have got to do something. There are LED black flashlights, and this cool head light, which is nice because it will leave my hands free. There is this battery operated flourescent one that is really cheap. I'd like to pay less than $40-50. Not sure which one will work better.Any other recommendations for scorpion hunting? If I can find a good set of long tongs I might even consider catching and releasing in the desert a few blocks away. (I know, I'm weird. I hate killing any kind of critters)http://www.0-0-0checkmate.com/Hot/Portable_Blacklight.htmlhttp://www.amazon.com/Black-Light -Headlamp-adjustable-headband/dp/B000UH4D74Niffer, in my reseach I found that the incandescent black light bulbs don't work. Has to be the fluorescent or LED. hahaha I do really think like your husband. I tend to beleive we should treat the earth and all creatures with respect. Scorpions really are beneficial. They eat lots of bugs. I just don't like them in the house. I did kill the guy I found in the kitchen. Not enough time to figure out how to catch him.
Answer:
You and my husband are both nuts! He tried to convince me that there is Scorpion Karma and they will not sting you if you catch and release them! He also says they will tell their friends to stay away from you if you are kind to them. That means I have to get close enough to vacume them.We bought a black light bulb from target and put it in a lamp with an extension cord. We could not ever find any scorpions. Then we found a scorpion inside and I wanted to see how it glowed, so we got the light. It didn't glow at all. I guess they only glow under certain types of black light?Moral of the story? Move somewhere else. I am wishing we could....

Question : My Holiday Rant anybody agree?
I just hate the holidays.. bah humbug... Get's old rushing from family to family to get a bunch of crap you dont want after you just spent a fortune buying everyone else $^it they didnt want. Have to deal with zombiefied people crowding stores and highways just to do this... I got my wife some nice stuff a few months ago since I have common sense and don't wait till the last minute. All of this has nothing to do with the actual reason for the holiday, Santa Claus after all has roots in German paganism. Merge this with Saint Nicholas and it's all just a conglomeration to benefit retailers. So anyways... I do try to be thoughtful about my gifts since that is the best you can do to please your loved ones. My wife got me me a "headlamp so she wouldnt have to hold the flashlight for me anymore"" Some pens so I wouldnt steal hers"" some measuring cups so I would stop using hers to make coffee"" and a Manning Colts jersey, yes I like Manning and he's cool, we're from TN after all, but I've been searching in stores for a Notre Dame jersey forever and she knows it, I tried to not show my dissapointment and be cool about it, she of course picked up on it right away. My sister n laws BF said after I left the room for a sec, "what'd he want a ND jersey for, is he catholic or something?" Now today I have to entertain the F*%#head b/c my wife and sister n law are going to see a movie with their gma, aunt. I just hate the holidays, bah humbugh, berate me if you will.. Call me miserable scrooge whatever... Anybody agree with me that this holiday is crap and we should just celebrate it for what it is the birth of christ not all this other crap?Interesting answer dougbee... How ironic is it that we stomp people to death in wal mart for a paganistic origin holiday in the name of something that didnt even occur at that time. My only caveat is that no matter the origin people need to step away and de "zombie" themselves some. It's almost a robotic process in this society, christmas...
Answer:
Just so you know, it actually isn't the birth of Christ. Scholars agree He was born in the spring. Reason? Shepherds don't tend their flocks in the field on cold December nights.Christmas wasn't celebrated by Christians until the 4th century AD when the Church decided to adopt the popular Roman solstice festivals of Saturnalia, Juvenalia, and Mithras (the child of the sun born December 25th). Most of the traditions surrounding Christmas like feasting, giving gifts, and evergreen boughs and trees have their roots in these pagan festivals.

Question : Dim headlamps on 2003 ford van?
I have a 2003 ford e 250 van that the headlamps(low beam) have just gone very dim... like a flashlight w/ very weak batterys. Also the high beam indicator lamp stays on at all times. The high work normally though... Please help! thanx a tonI was just told my brother may have re-wired the headlamp socket backwards as it fell apart when he went to change the bulb... could this be the culprit?
Answer:
you hit the nail on the head.... check the grounds and see if he rewired it wrong however without a electrical diagram, you need a shop to rewire correctly
